Hi Crafty Friends!!
This week’s demo is SO much fun!! Let’s get inspired by the reflections of trees along the water and make a beautiful Shadowbox to share the joy!!
Check out our video below:
We’ll start by grabbing our shadowbox base!!
This paper is pre-scored and a window is die-cut to give us start to a shadowbox! We also have a strip of paper to act as our center mount.
Fold along the scored lines and we’ll begin to color!!
Let’s make some clouds!!
Spritz down the metallic blue watercolor and use a blending brush over the cloud stencil to lightly color the space around the clouds. Flip the stencil between cloud layers to add some variety!
Add clouds of a bunch of sizes going across the entire inside of the shadowbox and most of the way down the front panel of it!
Now let’s make some trees! Grab your window cut-out and we’ll start painting.
Take your green watercolor and a fan brush! Tap your brush straight down vertically on the page- we’re building the trunk of the tree!
Turn your brush horizontally to start making the branches! Simply tap-tap-tap and tilt your brush to get full leaves!
We’ll trim around these trees! There should be just enough space to punch out a circle for our sun!
Color in that sun with a gold watercolor! If you’re making a sunset you could also add a red tone!
We’ll take that strip we set aside and color it in green as well! Using doublesided tape, we’ll attach it on the inside of the shadowbox to give us a 3D effect! Glue down your trees on this strip and your sun in any place you like!
It’s time to close up our shadowbox and paint the reflection!! This is the most special part of the piece, we are catching the colors of the backdrop we have made and letting it reflect in the pool of the front of the card.
Take the green of your trees and make vague shapes below them, mimicking the size and shapes of the trees themselves, Take your blue and pull down the blue of the sky, letting some places skip for the clouds. Now let’s grab a light shimmery white watercolor paint and softly brush it horizontally across the whole panel!
Now it looks like a watery reflection!
You can also stamp in watercolor!! Using metallic watercolors, because they are so pigmented, you can paint on to your stamp and press it into the paper! There are so many stamps to create with!
There you have your Watercolor Reflection Shadowbox!!
I love how this captures such a beautiful day at the lake, with clouds and dragonflies!!
This craft is available ALL WEEK at our Make-and-Take table!! And as always, we can help you create this sort of technique any time!!
Happy crafting!
