The Amazing World Of Black
Hello Friends!!
You all know how much I LOVE color!! Black is no exception!!
Black is one of those colors that tends to be overlooked in projects, often just a background color or liner. It has So Much Magic in its darkness and depth!! In this Demo Elli explores a variety of different black papers, ribbon, and embellishments!
Check out the full Demo here:
First, I’d like to show you some different shades and textures of Black!
There are so Many kinds of black paper- standard black card stock, natural handmade paper, suede, even Stardream metallic! Keep your eyes peeled to notice the subtle difference in the saturation, tints, and texture!
Similarly, black ribbon comes in an endless assortment of width, pattern and opacity!
Even black ink has so much to choose from! Distress Oxide even shows on some black paper!! Different inks will appear deeper, darker, and richer than others depending on your choice of paper and application!
This card was so much Fun!! We grabbed every black ribbon in the shop to display here.
Just a piece of double-sided tape to secure the ribbon and a simple and beautiful card came to life!
With lace, woven, vintage, and even mesh ribbons- this is a wonderful way to showcase the variety that black can have!
Here is another way to showcase your favorite ribbon and play with a really fun technique- paper weaving!
Find similar width ribbon and paper strips then you can alternate over-and-under folds to create a cohesive woven page!
This card is a great example of how layering different kinds of black paper can made a subtle yet dramatic difference!!
An assortment of hole punches cut out windows to the Stardream background, creating a whimsical background for this suede mushroom scene. By alternating the deep suede for embellishments and the metallic stardream, a magical world of depth and texture is revealed!
Okay! Now that we’ve explored the world of paper and ribbon lets move on to the Embellishments!!!
This stellar galaxy background was made by simply blending the Distress Oxide into the paper then flicking droplets from the water pen to displace the ink. This technique is perfect for backgrounds and subtle highlights!
Nuvo Crystal Drops add such a fun extra dimension to a project!
The needlenose tip lets you draw any shape, dot, or swirl and the glossy puff paint will dry to the same shape!
This AMAZING technique is fondly called Molten Lava~
First, use your Crystal Drops like normal! Cover with embossing powder and heat set it! The paint will bubble and boil like Molten Lava!!! This makes such a cool, distressed texture!
Okay guys!! This is such a fun example of bringing highlights and lowlights to a monotone piece!
On the left, this amazing circle stamp is pressed with just the VersaFine Clair inkpad in Nocturne! The right has the same technique with heat activated Detail Black Embossing Powder too!
Notice how the embossing powder creates a glossy highlight texture while the ink is a deeper lowlight.
See, in this card the same embossed circle stamp is used!
What’s so fun is the embossed pattern keeps its dark, glossy shape even after being watercolored!! This is a super useful technique to make the black lettering pop out from the black background!
We’ve explored layering, weaving, embossing, watercolors, embellishing, and some fun card designs that combine them all!
I hope this has inspired you to play with new colors and techniques in your projects!
Even a single color can create beautifully detailed art!
Thanks for tuning in, friends!
