Quick Watercolor Designs
Hello my creative friends!!
This week Elli explored simple and effective watercolor techniques to play with! We’ll be talking about shading, stamping, masking, and more!
Check out the full Demo below:
While a lot of pens and paints are water-movable there’s a difference when it comes to working with traditional watercolors!
The saturation and blend-ability of classic watercolors lets you do some very fun techniques! Today we are using Angora watercolor set and Pearlescent watercolors!
Here’s a really fun way to use water-movable pens!!
Take some acetate in your favortite shape and color it with Tombow markers or any other water-soluble marker ink! Then, spritz with some water and let the inks blend into each other. Flip the colorful acetate over and stamp it onto a piece of cardstock to create a colorful shape!
Using a water-brush pen can make water color extra easy and precise! Look here how Elli has used the Distress inks to create balloons, she went back in with watercolor to create shadows and depth to the balloons and fox!
The beauty of watercolors comes from the paints amazing ability to blend between layers! Every time you let a section dry, the next layer of paint will be more vivid! Use this to create washes for a background and details in the foreground!
Ever wonder how to make your diecuts extra special, colorful, or cute?
Try watercoloring them! These sea creatures came to life with just a little bit of paint! The texture of the watercolor works extra well here- almost giving the sea creatures a watery look!!
Just like the die-cuts above, watercolor can turn any plain stamp into a painted scene!
This lovely flower and butterfly stamp is so cute on its own but just Pops when you add the petal color and butterfly. Even using just a couple colors can create beautiful shading and depth.
For this fun technique we used the same flower stamp and embossed it with Detail Black embossing powder on top of the black cardstock. It didn’t look like much until the pearlescent watercolor was added!
The watercolor moves around the embossed stamp, creating a beautiful look of lined edges and the metallic background!
This time we used Clear Embossing Powder on white cardstock! This is creating the same effect as the black-on-black example above.
The embossing powder acts as a mask for the paint to move around! This lets you keep crisp lines even when you color outside of them! Playing with this and letting your paint get messy and artistic is So Fun!!
These are only a few examples from the world of watercoloring!! There is so much to explore and create, let these be a guide for your own painting play!
Try combining these methods and find your own favorite way of using paints, pens, and more!
Thanks for tuning in and have fun painting!!
