Hello my crafty friends!!
This week we are inspired by Dragons!!! Let’s cut out paper pieces and build a dragon, we’ll even add mica flake scales!!
Watch the video here:
After printing out a stock image of a Dragon, we created templates of every piece: Torso, Wings, Tail, and Belly Extremities!
We will use these to trace on to papers!
We have a few kinds of papers to use for our different body parts!!
The velum is a see-through paper that is perfect for the wings!
The mirror paper is super shiny and is great to use as the “Torso” section!
And the metallic paper is super lovely for the underside pieces!
You can choose any colors that you think look nice together!!
I chose gold-flaked velum for my Dragon’s wings, silver mirror card for the Torso, and a metallic white for the underparts!!
Tracing around the templates and then fussy cutting them out let’s you have the perfect shapes!
Don’t worry too much about trimming it perfectly because we can tidy it up once everything is glued down!
Now that everything is cut out, let’s glue our pieces together!
Piecing our Dragon backwards we’ll start by putting the Tail to the Extremities, then we will glue the velum wings on over that! Lastly, we’ll line up the top Torso!
Feel free to trim any excess that you don’t like! I personally enjoy the overlap of the wings between the body parts, I think it adds more aerodynamics!!
Now it’s time to let our Dragon fly!!
We’ll start by punching holes in the elbows of the wings, making sure to go through every piece of layered paper.
Get two lengths of twine, about 12 inches, and cut one of them in half! We’ll use each of these smaller pieces for each wing, making a knot on the underside!
Then, punch a hole through the Dragon’s tail and tie the longer piece underneath as well! You’ll need a helping hand to hold your Dragon in place while you gather all three strings and knot them together at the top! We want our Dragon to fly as flat as we can make it.
Lastly, we’ll make a little knot at the very top so we can hang our Dragon up!
Ready to make our scales??
We have So many colors of Mica Flakes- Gold, Purple, Green, Copper, and Blue!!
I think for this silvery Dragon I’ve created I’ll choose the Purple/Silver Mica! Simply put some glue where you’d like scales to go, add the Mica flakes, and shake off the extra!!
There you have your very own Dragon!!!
Can you imagine making an entire fleet of Paper Dragons to fly around your ceiling? Or maybe you want to create a GIANT Dragon by blowing-up this template to a bigger size??
However you want to make your Dragon will be AMAZING!
Thank you for following along and creating a Dragon with us today!!
This Dragon craft will be stationed ALL WEEK! And if you ever need to make a Dragon in the future, ask for our help- we can help you make your very own!
See you again soon!!
